"sammy antonio" at least that's where emily said we went
saturday we had lunch at chili's before we left. emily kept saying how she wanted to "show us the town" - she meant she wanted us to go out of town! since mary had gotten to our house friday night, emily would say out of the blue how much she loved mae mae days. that statement alone probably made mary want to come keep them all the time! so we said our good-byes and headed off.
dan and i had a great time. we had a great view of the "river" (i don't think it's a real river), and the place we stayed was within walking distance to many neat things. don't worry, we remembered the alamo - but we did not go there this trip since we've visited it before. :)
we had lots of lunches and dinners sitting at a table for two, not four. the only kid who went with us was the one i've been carrying around for 7 months, and he was a good baby most of the time. we did not talk a lot about the kids, but we did sometimes. the only thing we did other than eat and shop was to see king kong on the imax screen. and btw, that movie was WAY too long, and i had some disturbing dreams that night, but the overall imax experience was okay. and dan was a trooper at the outlet mall; deborah, i don't remember seeing a gondola. but trust me, if i had seen it we would have gotten a ticket to ride. dan would drive to a store, drop me off, park and i'd be finished by the time he came in to get me. it was a little boring, but i think that's only because i was too pregnant to walk around a ton. we'd been walking EVERYWHERE. i enjoyed pottery barn the most, i think. i was unimpressed with the gymboree outlet. frankly, i can get better prices at our local gymboree when they have red hot dot sales and the like.
i tried to refrain from calling dan's mom every couple of hours, so we called once a day. but we did get our first phone call from her in the middle of dinner saturday night. she called to say she and the kids were locked out of the house. an agent showed the house and locked the door from the garage that goes to the laundry room. did we have an extra key? yeah, we had one, but it was in the house. so in the pitch black night mary and the kids walked into the back yard and tried to break in the windows. unfortunately, they were locked tight. the back door was left unlocked by the agent, thankfully!! so they got in. the whole experience probably made emily even more afraid of the dark (she sleeps with her light on, even in broad daylight). our agent would have let them in (she lives next door), but she was not home and would not be for a little while. but but at least they got in!
i did have a couple of interesting conversations with emily in the days after mae mae left. every now and then she would tell me a story about an adventure they had, or about a conversation she they had. emily had no idea, but she told on her grandmother several times!!!
so basically, we all had a good time. we thought about it, and the last time dan and i went anywhere without the kids was the weekend of ethan's first birthday. so hey, a once a year getaway is not bad.

The gondola it litterally in the parking lot near gymboree. They might just run them on the weekends.
I'm glad yall had fun. I agree, parents should have a getta way every year. I sometimes wish we lived closer to BR. Oh well.
It sounds like y'all had a great time! I'm so glad you got to get away and enjoy some time together.
Glad you had a fun trip!!
dude, it's about time your butt posted something...vacay or no vacay! i'm glad you enjoyed the trip.
I just got back from Sammy Antonio too. :) I saw where the gondola is supposed to be, but it wasn't in the water. I enjoyed the outlet mall except for all the stores having to be spaced out so much. We moved our car several times too. It was fun though! I'm glad you and Dan enjoyed together-time without the kids. Now it's back to reality, huh? :)
