Turkey Day

well, it's several days after thanksgiving, and just now i feel well enough to blog the past few days! late wednesday night i somehow got a weird fever virus. it lasted until sunday morning. dan has it now - his fever has vomiting along with it, yuck. thankfully i never had that side of it.

my mom got here wednesday to spend time with us. can i just say that was the best visit ever. i hardly saw her - but i knew she was here. she did all my laundry, took care of the kids (gave poor dan a break, thankfully), cooked and cleaned. i pretty much think she was bored to tears, but hey, i was so sick i really did not have a chance to really even talk to her. i guess thanksgiving was nice, i was at the table maybe 5 minutes before i had to be excused. dan smoked the turkey and made all the sides - my mom helped make my secret recipe dressing and that was it!

i do have a funny story to tell on emily. she just turned three in late september and this is the first year any holiday makes any sense to her. so anyway, she was very happy with halloween because of the candy (dan and i don't let them eat candy; i know - we are so mean), so to build up thanksgiving we called it turkey day and told her all kinds of fun things we would do on that day. well, she was so thrilled it was finally turkey day!! all morning she told me how much she loved turkeys. finally around 10 am dan got the turkey out of the brine & took it to the sink to rinse it off. emily loves to "help" in the kitchen so she sat in her usual spot on the counter. needless to say she was totally freaked out when she saw the turkey. her eyes got real big and she asked where the head was and why there were no feathers. it freaked her out even more when dan actually put it on the grill. well, she was not excited about the turkey for the rest of the day, you can guess who did not eat any turkey on turkey day. we've probably unwittingly recruited PETA another member.

I'm a blogger

okay, so now i blog. i'll just add this to the many things i use to procrastinate with. the internet is #1, so i guess blogging would fall under that category. i probably won't have lots of insightful things to say (like JB), but hopefully i won't bore anyone to death.

my mom is coming here for thanksgiving so we are staying home!! thank goodness. i'm so sick of traveling every holiday. i'm very anxious to be able to have our own family traditions instead of getting in the minivan and traveling 5 hours to go to mary's or my mom's. my dad recently moved to northwest arkansas, so if we see him, he'll have to come here. we've invited mary and david to come here for christmas so hopefully we can stay home then too! :) not that family is not important, i'm just pregnant and in a never-ceasing bad mood.
